Pattern maker
Free cross stitch pattern maker
Draw a pattern on a stitch grid in real DMC threads. Or import a photo or a picture and turn it into a chart you can tidy and print. Free, in your browser, with nothing to install and no account to start.
Before and after
A strawberry, painted stitch by stitch.
Seven DMC threads on a 25 by 27 grid, drawn by hand and cropped to 17 by 21.

How it works
Three steps.
1. Start blank
Pick the width and height in stitches, pick the cloth, and the editor shows you the finished size.
2. Add threads and paint
Choose from 482 DMC threads. Paint whole, half, three-quarter and quarter stitches, backstitch and text.
3. Export
Open Export, preview every page, and save the PDF with its key.
Already have a picture? Import it, and the editor turns it into a chart you can keep editing.
What comes out
Ready for the project bag.
A print-ready PDF with the chart in one-page and multi-page layouts, colour and black-and-white, plus a key page listing every thread, the skeins to buy and the finished size on nine cloth counts. You preview every page before you save.

Printing needs a free account. A free account prints 3 patterns, each as often as you like, with a grey "FellowStitch - personal use only" mark across each page. Plus and Studio print without limit and without the mark.
Questions
What people ask.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Everything you need to draw a pattern by hand is free, up to 300 by 300 stitches. A free account prints 3 patterns. Plus and Studio add cleanup tools, bigger patterns, unlimited printing and the right to sell.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. It runs in the browser on a computer, a tablet or a phone.
- Do I need an account?
- Not to draw. Your work autosaves in the browser. A free account is needed to print a PDF.
- Which threads does it use?
- DMC, all 482. Every square on the chart is a thread you can buy.
- Can I open a pattern from another program?
- Yes. It opens and saves OXS, the file WinStitch, MacStitch and other cross-stitch programs use.
- Can I sell what I make?
- On Plus and Studio, yes, both the pattern and the finished piece. Free PDFs are for your own stitching.
